Council stands by social care changes despite court ruling

By Hugh Fort
April 25, 2008

Wokingham is not open to legal challenges over cuts to adult social care despite a judge branding similar changes made by another council “unlawful”.

Harrow Council was taken to court in December by three of its care users who had their services removed after the council decided to change its eligibility criteria to only serve people with ‘critical’ needs.

Wokingham Borough Council made the same change in November 2006, which meant 64 people lost their services.

There were also 233 people with some ‘critical’ needs whose services were reduced.

However, Wokingham council says it cannot be taken to court.
