Protestors take on Gordon Brown

By Hugh Fort

Environmental protestors gathered in Wokingham town centre on Saturday to urge the Government to do more to stop aviation pollution.

One member of Wokingham Friends of the Earth donned a Gordon Brown mask during the demonstration in Market Place to draw attention to the Government’s Climate Change Law.

The group wants the Government to change the proposed law, which is set to be introduced in the summer, to include the UK’s share of carbon dioxide emissions from aeroplanes and ships.

The protest coincides with the group’s national day of protest as part of its The Big Ask campaign.

Wokingham MP John Redwood has pledged his support to the group.

He said: “I strongly believe we need to live in a cleaner and greener world and also believe the Government should do a lot more than it is currently doing.”

Penny Miller, from the group, said: “We were pleased with the way the morning went. It attracted a bit of attention.”
