Girl crushed by horse in horror crash

Two young riders and their ponies were mown down by a van in a “horrendous” road smash in Finchampstead on Monday.
Ellie Howard, 14, and her 11-year-old friend Sophie Shaw were hurled from their animals when a van driver hit one of the ponies while swerving to avoid a car which was overtaking another vehicle in Wellingtonia Avenue.
Sophie’s horse, Bracken, landed on top of her, crushing her leg, while Ellie hit her head during the accident.
