Wokingham battered by rain and high winds

March 10, 2008

Heavy rain and winds are battering Wokingham, but the Met Office has withdrawn initial severe weather warnings for the region.

Wokingham Borough Council is braced for action as reports of damage to trees and power cables have already been coming in from residents this morning (Monday).

Jubilee Road in Finchampstead is closed because of a damaged power cable, which is hanging over the middle of the road.

Southern Electric engineers are on the scene.

The council has received reports of nine felled trees in the borough and is investigating these, but a spokeswoman for the council said they were braced for conditions to worsen this afternoon.

Severe weather warnings for most of the UK , including Wokingham, were withdrawn by the Met Office this afternoon.

Wales and south west England are being particularly hard hit by the severe weather.
