Is new football stand plan ‘a non-starter’?

18/ 7/2007

An ambitious vision to replace plans for a 250-seat stand at Cantley Park has been given extra time for scrutiny, but has little hope of succeeding.
Cantley House Hotel owner Maurice Monk proposed a £3 million centre for culture and sport should be built at an alternative site to the
Twyford Road park, at a Cantley Forum meeting last Tuesday.
His ideas for the Toutley Depot site, a short distance from  Cantley Park, were dampened by Cllr Frank Browne, leader of Wokingham Borough Council.
Cllr Browne pointed out funding for the major project was not guaranteed and the council plans to sell the Toutley Depot site for up to £2 million for housing development.
