Monstrous’ mini-town plan goes on show

18/ 7/2007

A “Monstrous” plan to build a mini-town on the border of Wokingham and Crowthorne can be scrutinised by the public at an exhibition starting tomorrow (Thursday).
The proposals for the Crowthorne Business Estate where the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) was once located will be showcased at the three-day public exhibition.
Site owner Legal & General hopes to transform the area in Old Wokingham Road in to a mixed development featuring open space, offices and around 1,000 homes.
And Carole Doran, member of Crowthorne Village Action Group (CVAG), is urging all residents to check out the plans and have their say.
She said: “One thousand homes is ridiculous, it is far too much. I’m really pleased they [Legal & General] are trying to discuss this with the residents but it is too big.
“It would mean a 20 per cent increase of what we have already got here in Crowthorne.
“It is just monstrous. I urge everybody to go along to one of these public exhibition days and ask questions and give their views because I do not know what the rest of Crowthorne really thinks.”
