Council leader wins title fight

An attempt to challenge the leader of Wokingham Borough Council has failed – but only just.
Cllr Matthew Deegan, ward member for Hawkedon (Earley), challenged Cllr Frank Browne to the leadership of Wokingham’s ruling Tory party at a Conservative party meeting on Thursday, June 14.
Out of 43 Tory voters, 25 backed Cllr Browne, but 18 supported Cllr Deegan.
