Bobbies on the beat to double in six months
May 09, 2007
The friendly neighbourhood bobby on the beat is returning in force.
Wokingham residents will see double the number of uniformed police, including PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) and dedicated neighbourhood PCs, walking the beat in the borough’s communities by the end of 2007.
Police are in the process of recruiting more officers to add to the existing 22 covering the Wokingham area.
This will include more PCSOs, taking the number in the borough to 26, and recruiting 12 neighbourhood specialist officers (NSOs).
The aim of the recruitment drive is to put more uniformed police staff on the streets to reassure residents and businesses. The extra PCSOs will give full-time officers more time to complete paperwork.
