Arborfield will be vacated within three years, but developers can put their housing plans on hold as the Ministry of Defence is keeping the site.
Groups in Wokingham had looked to the closure of the garrison as an answer to some of the town’s headaches, including where to build thousands of new homes necessary to meet Government targets.
Wokingham Liberal Democrats were keen to see a single settlement development of up to 6,000 new homes at the garrison, and a new home for Wokingham and Emmbrook Football Club.
