A woman has been left injured and distraught after her dog was attacked and killed by another dog.
The terrier, called Skipper, was walking with its owner in South Lake, at about 2.45pm on Wednesday, January 3, when it was savaged by a Japanese Akita and left with serious chest wounds.
The dog’s owner, a
woman thought to be in her mid-sixties, was hurt trying to rescue her dog, but did not need hospital treatment.
Staff from Beechwood Veterinary Centre in Beechwood Road were called to treat the dog and took him back to the centre.
But the dog died about an hour later.
Helen Shreeve, a vet at the surgery, said: “The lady was walking her dog and we were told about the attack by
another dog walker.
“We went to the scene and brought Skipper back to the surgery, where we operated on him.
