The ‘Readifare’ cash vault system will operate on service 126, 127, 128 and 129 between Reading, Twyford, Maidenhead and Wokingham from Monday, November 27.
Reading Buses says the introduction follows the success of the system in other areas, but customers are branding the change as “annoying”.
Patricia McCallum, a 39-year-old housewife from Wokingham, uses the bus regularly to go shopping in Reading.
She said: “I use the bus for shopping because it’s better than getting the train because it drops us in town.
“It’s going to be annoying because it’s terrible at the moment anyway when they ask for smaller change.
“It’s not fair on the pensioners either because they use buses quite regularly. Then you have got the school kids in the morning so their parents will have to count out change before they send them off.”
