CRASH WHICH KILLED MODEL 'COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED' - COURT

A STUDENT driving a car involved in a collision that killed an aspiring model could have “comfortably” avoided hitting her, a court heard.
Nicholas Ridout’s Volkswagen Polo hit 21-year-old Hayley Moffitt, of Drake Close in Finchampstead, from behind as she walked in the middle of Finchampstead Road in the early hours of Friday, July 16, 2004.
She died from head injuries, Bracknell Magistrates Court heard on Monday.
Ridout, 20, from Croft Road denies a charge of driving without care and attention in relation to Miss Moffitt’s death, claiming he was paying full attention and was driving how he normally drove when he suddenly saw her within metres of his car.
However PC Gary Baldwin, collision investigator who has overseen the case, said he believed it was possible Ridout had five seconds to brake after he came out of a set of bends in Finchampstead Road – which was enough time to stop before hitting Miss Moffitt.
