FAMILY TELLS OF TERROR AS ARSONISTS TORCH HEDGE

By Victoria Corbett
April 26, 2006

A FAMILY fled their home in terror as flames from a nighttime arson attack threatened to spread to the house.
Sue and Martin Carlaw, of Sadlers Lane in Winnersh, were fast asleep when the roaring flames from a torched 15ft hedge in their front garden woke them at 2am on Sunday.
They immediately rushed their 12-year-old daughter to safety before calling the fire brigade.
Mr Carlaw attempted to beat back the flames but he was overpowered by the fire and had to give up.
Firefighters from Wokingham Road fire station arrived to find the flames quickly spreading to a Ford Mondeo in the driveway.
