Acorns' children bring Christmas cheer

December 20, 2012

Tots warmed the hearts of the elderly when they visited a care home.

Little ones from Acorns Under-Fives in Butler Road performed the Nativity story and sang traditional songs to residents of Pinehurst Care Home on Friday.

Pre-school manager Joanne Littlejohn said: “It was heartwarming to see the older people’s faces light up.

“Some of the residents don’t have young families and some of the children don’t have grannies and grandads.

“I’d like to thank them for having us.”

Staff at the care home said residents were ‘over the moon’ to be visited by the children, who walked in the rain to visit the home in Dukes Ride.

Marie West, Pinehurst activities coordinator, said: “The children liked being with the elderly people and they naturally warmed to the children.

“It warmed their hearts and cheered them up.

“Happiness was reciprocated between the young and old.”
