New school parents warned of admission changes

By Jon Nurse
December 04, 2012

Parents started applying for places at primary, infant and junior schools across the borough but are warned admissions changes are coming.

Families applying in areas expecting new school sites, providers or additional places are advised to wait until towards the end of the application period, which finishes on January 15, to take advantage of latest information.

Councillor Charlotte Haitham Taylor, executive member for children’s services, said: “This year admissions is slightly different because rising birth rates and the popularity of our schools means we’re increasing the number of primary school places in the areas of the borough that need them.

“We completely understand there may be some uncertainty at this stage about the final details of the additional places, but its absolutely crucial parents meet the deadline. We will support, advise and help parents every step of the way.”

The executive member encouraged families to check the council’s website, Twitter feed, the schools Facebook page or The Wokingham Times to be kept up-to-date with developments.

Parents can express up to four school preferences on the application form and will be notified of their allocated schools on April 16.

Applications can be made at www.wokingham.gov.uk/admissions or by paper using the form in the admissions application pack which is available on request.
