The town’s MP has backed the creation of a free school in Wokingham.

A group of parents are working to get the support of an educational trust to set up Evendons Free School.

John Redwood said: “Free schools offer a good way to provide more school places in areas like Wokingham, and to provide parents with more choice of school.

“Oakbank is up and running locally, showing how a dedicated team of parents, well-wishers and teaching staff can drive through a new school rapidly and have it open and working quite quickly.

“I wish people well with a scheme to provide more primary school places in Wokingham, as we are going to need them.”

Oakbank was established after a bid by the West of Wokingham Parent Group (WoWPG) to the Department of Education.

If only we already had some system of taxation and local/national government that could be used to provide education for our children, these wouldn't be necessary.
