Olympic inspiration at South Lake Primary School
July 10, 2012
A former Olympian encouraged Woodley schoolchildren to be the best they can be as part of a new Olympic themed programme.
Silver medallist Mark Richardson visited pupils at South Lake Primary School to launch the Be the Best you can Be initiative which aims to inspire, engage and empower young people to reach their potential and be inspired by the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Mr Richardson spoke to pupils at the school in Campbell Road about his Olympic career.
He competed for Great Britain in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta alongside team mates Iwan Thomas, Jamie Baulch and Roger Black in the four x 400m relay.
Headteacher Pauline Lamb said: “I was keen that our school be one of those to undertake the Be the Best you can Be programme.
“The inspiration offered by Olympians, Paralympians and high achievers who strive to achieve their dreams is incredibly powerful and can really engage children.”
