Primary pupils first for road safety
June 26, 2012
Pupils swotted up on their road safety knowledge to go head to head and win prizes.
Teams of four Year Five pupils from 11 primary schools were quizzed on road signs and the highway code at the Road Safety Inter School Quiz at Sandy Lane Primary School on June 12.
Year Five teacher Rachel Emmett said: “The quiz was held at Sandy Lane because we won it last year.
“The teams get a book called Tales of the Road and train for six to eight weeks and learn as much as they can.
“It’s great because they said they now discuss road signs when in the car and it helps them be more aware for the future.”
The booklet was provided by Bracknell Forest Council, who organised the event for the fourth year.
Mrs Emmett said: “The evening went really smoothly and they all got quite excited when the prize came out.
“There were some hard questions and this year Birch Hill won.”
Birch Hill Primary School was awarded the coveted Chris Pickett Memorial Trophy and £100 book vouchers for the school by deputy mayor of Bracknell Forest Councillor Jan Angell.
