Golden inspiration from Paralympics champion

May 25, 2012

A school enjoyed a golden visit from a Paralympian.

Gold medal winning rower Helene Raynsford led a whole school assembly All Saints Primary School on Thursday, May 17.

Pupils at the school in Norreys Avenue had the opportunity to ask their questions to the rowing champion. Deputy headteacher Jacqui Kearney said: “Helene truly inspired and motivated our children by her visit.”

The Paralympian had trained at the Royal Ballet School before an injury ended her chances of becoming a professional dancer. She won gold in the Beijing Paralympics before retiring in March 2010.

The Olympic torch relay will make a fleeting visit to Wokingham on Tuesday, July 10, when it crosses the river from Henley to the Leander Club in Wargrave Road, where a waiting car will whisk it off to its next destination.

It will be carried through the streets of Ascot and Bracknell on the same day.
