May 23, 2012

Pupils presented Sandhurst Town Council leaders with mayoral chains at the annual meeting, held at St Michael’s CE Aided Primary School, Lower Church Road, on Thursday, May 3.

Last year’s Sandhurst town mayor Councillor Dale Birch was elected as mayor for another year, with no other nominations.

Hannah Brian, of Year Six, presented the town mayor with the mayoral chain and Jack Wilson, of Year Two, handed over the mayoress’s chain to Cllr Gill Birch.

Mrs Birch said that Jack, six, had shown her round the school when St Michael’s celebrated its 150th birthday this year.

She said: “He was so helpful. I shan’t forget him in a hurry.”

Cllr Michael Rossard was chosen as deputy mayor for another year, with no other nominations.

Cllr Pauline McKenzie, former vice-chair for planning, was elected as chair.

Cllr Carole Cupper will remain as chair for environment and Cllr Jean Bettison will stay as chair for leisure. Cllr Nick Allen was elected chair for strategy and policy.

The council presented St Michael’s with a cheque for £500 to buy a specially commissioned story-telling chair, as well as a picture of the school 150 years ago.
