Pupils at an Arborfield school enjoyed visits from three local authors as part of a literacy event.

Team v Wokingham, a youth volunteer group aiming to improve literacy in children, teamed up with The Coombes School in School Road which hosted the event.

Authors Ed Wicke, Keith Sheppard and Jo Bryant visited the school, along with Wokingham MP John Redwood, as the pupils took part in a number of workshops.

Charlee Bennett, Team v leader, said: “I have had an amazing day, the authors have all been incredible and the children all seem to have had a really good time.

“The Coombes is an amazing school, they have a really different vision when it comes to schooling and I am truly thankful they have let us have an entire day to run our project.”

The event on Friday, May 4, was part of Team v Wokingham's literacy campaign.

Miss Bennett said: “We have reached more than 600 children over the last two months and worked with different organisations such as ABC to Read, PACT charity and Wokingham Libraries.”

The Coombes pupil Naomi Bruce was named winner of Team v Wokingham’s story competition judged by Paddington Bear creator Michael Bond.
