Brave knights celebrate St George's Day
May 02, 2012
Knights, dragons and princesses joined together as New Christ Church Primary School proudly celebrated St George’s Day.
Children at the school in Milman Road, Whitley, dressed up as they acted out the story of England’s patron saint in front of friends and staff on Monday, April 23.
The youngsters and teachers also told each other about the things they were afraid of, including scary dogs, driving and hard work, but also how to gain strength and face their fears.
Headteacher Stacey Howarth said: “One of our children came and asked if we could celebrate St George’s Day and the staff and parents were really keen as well.
“It is good to celebrate our patron saint and the children to learn about being brave and facing up to your fears, which is important in today’s society.
“Many of them dressed up and every one of them got a St George’s Day sticker.
“It was fantastic to see everyone having a real sense of pride in their country.”
