Ranelagh pupils light up torch challenge
By Hugh FortMay 01, 2012
Young artists and designers were fired up as they came up with their own Olympic torches to use at an event featuring all of the borough’s schools.
The Year Nine pupils at Ranelagh School in Ranelagh Drive, Bracknell, used copper and other materials to make their torches.
The winner of the competition was Jonathan Shaw, 14, who created a torch with flashing LED lights.
He said: “I’m very pleased to win and proud that my torch will be used at the event later in the summer.”
Pupil Saffron Stay, 13, said: “I made mine out of copper and acrylics, but it wasn’t that girlie.”
Jonathan’s torch will be carried at an Olympic event for schools in the summer and also at Ranelagh’s own procession.
