Andrew scoops gold Duke of Edinburgh award

February 01, 2010

A former pupil at an Ascot school has been mixing with royalty after excelling at the Duke of Edinburgh awards.

Andrew Turner left the Licensed Victuallers’ School in London Road after his A-levels last year and is the first pupil from the school to get the gold, silver and bronze awards in the scheme.

He was presented with his gold award by Prince Edward at an event at St James’ Palace and was praised for his achievement.

Andrew completed all five sections of the Gold Award, which included a school expedition to Snowdonia.

He has now joined the school’s DoE team and is being trained as an expedition assessor.
