Bracknell and Wokingham College one of best in country

February 01, 2010

A newly rebuilt college has been placed in the top five per cent of all schools and colleges in the country and is the best in the Thames Valley, Hampshire and Surrey region.

Bracknell and Wokingham College is one of the best in the country according to ‘contextual value-added’ (CVA) league tables released by the Government’s Department for Children, Schools and Families.

The tables compare 16 to 19-year-olds’ predicted grades for their A-levels and BTEC National Diplomas with their actual grades and generate a points-score based on the improvement.

The predicted grades are based on the students’ results at GCSE level meaning the CVA tables reflect progress made since starting their A-level or BTEC courses.

The college, based in the brand new building in Church Road, Bracknell, scored 1039.4 points, 21 more than last year, meaning students achieved more than a full A-level grade higher than might be expected based on their previous achievements.

James Taylor, the college’s director of quality and standards, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the college and is proof of the hard work that all our staff and students have put in over the last year.”

It is extremely worrying that this facility exists but many Wokingham residents are cut off from evening courses because there is no evening bus service between Wokingham and Bracknell
