GCSE results puts borough in country's top 10

GCSE pupils’ excellent exam achievements have landed the borough in the top 10 best achieving areas in the country.

There is plenty of cause for celebration in Wokingham’s schools, with the borough ranked ninth for its five or more A* to C passes, including English and maths, at 62.6 per cent.

This is compared to 60.6 per cent last year.

Hard work for girls paid off as they landed in the top six in the country for the national indicator in achieving five or more GCSEs at A* to C, including English and maths, at 68.3 per cent.

The boys’ percentage was 57.3 per cent, placing them 11th in the country.

Both is these results were significantly above the national average, with 46.8 per cent for boys and 54.2 per cent for girls.

The provisional results show the borough’s pupils were also ranked eighth nationally for five or more A* to G passes, including English and maths, with 95 per cent of pupils achieving this grades, which is one per cent higher than last year.

Councillor Rob Stanton, Wokingham Borough Council’s executive member for children’s services, said: “Year after year our pupils continue to achieve great GCSE results.”
