College rebuild still on track

March 30, 2009

The £37million rebuild of Bracknell and Wokingham College has escaped Government cuts.

Similar projects around the country have been put on hold after promised cash was withheld – even on some where building had already begun.

But the scheme at the town centre college is set to continue thanks to its early start.

A spokesman for the Learning and Skills Council, which is paying for the projects, said Bracknell and Wokingham College was so near to completion, it would not be affected.

College principal Howard O’Keeffe  reassured people the college was not affected by the funding crisis and would open as planned this September.

He added: “Colleges where plans are still subject to final approval do have my sympathy – it is very disappointing and frustrating for them.

"I am playing a full part in the campaign to persuade the Government to resolve the problem.”
