Anger grows with queues at town centre post office

Hugh Fort

More bad news could be on the horizon for post office customers in Wokingham who are already battling queues at the town’s last remaining branch.

Users of the now-closed Barkham Road and London Road sub-post office branches are now forced to use the Broad Street office, meaning daily queues out the door have become inevitable.

The Post Office is doomed unless it modernises quickly. Why are local Post Offices unable to offer basic services like postage outside very limited opening hours? It seems crazy not to be able to post a letter to France on a Saturday afternoon or a parcel at 6pm on a Wednesday evening when the shop is open but the Post Office is closed! Madness of the first order. Many of the functions of a Post Office are simple - let's liberalise their management so business people can make them more efficient and responsive to customer needs. It is as if the government is trying to ruin them so that it has support when it announces privatisation!
