Eco-tree sale for green Christmas

December 08, 2010

If you would rather have a green Christmas than a white one, you should call in at Caversham Court on Saturday.

Econet, the environmental community network, has organised a sale of sustainable Christmas trees, handmade holly, willow and mistletoe wreaths and Christmas cards and gifts.

The organisation – part of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BCTV) – will be at the garden in Church Road, Caversham, from 10am to 3pm.

All the Scots pines and wreaths have been cut locally as part of heathland restoration projects.

BCTV senior community project officer Oonagh Kelleher said: “It’s a great way to get a locally grown, sustainable, ethical and perfectly-shaped Christmas tree. The wide selection of wreaths and Christmas cards and gifts make the Econet Christmas sale a great way to get ready for Christmas.

“And as it’s in aid of the Econet’s valuable work, you won’t just be getting a Christmas tree, you’ll be helping improve biodiversity in Berkshire too.”
