Bracknell in Bloom launches today

Fragrant flora and brilliant blooms are being planted around the town centre to launch an annual celebration of plants and flowers.

Bracknell in Bloom is being launched in the town centre today to mark the start of the event.

The campaign is organised by a committee made up of Bracknell Regeneration Partnership and Bracknell Forest Council and is backed by sponsors including the Bracknell Forest Standard.

Bracknell in Bloom was first launched in 2002 as part of the borough council’s drive to give the town’s entry into the Thames and Chiltern region of the Britain in Bloom competition an identity.

Each year the town centre and the surrounding areas are decorated with trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables and people are encouraged to liven up their own gardens.

Last year Bracknell got a silver gilt award in the small city category of Britain in Bloom and won the regional award for ‘Best Floral Input’.

This year the committee has come up with a red, white and blue colour scheme.

Helen Barnett, marketing manager for Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, said: “Bracknell in Bloom is such a wonderful initiative but it serves a greater purpose than just making the town look beautiful.

“It brings together the community in gardening projects and encourages people to spend time outside in their garden and try their hand at growing flowers or vegetables.”

David Harris, landscape manager at Bracknell Forest Council, added: “The landscape team at the council puts a lot of hard work into making the borough look beautiful and cared for all year round and Bracknell in Bloom forms a pivotal part of what we do.”

In conjunction with the launch of the event some of the borough’s biggest garden centres will have stands in Charles Square in the town centre today and Saturday so they can show off what they have to offer, give out tips and more.

Whilst 'Bracknell in Bloom' continues to rearrange flowers in and around the own centre, like deckchairs on the Titanic.

When is someone going to realise that soon there will be no shops!! Never mind, I doubt the council do.

Bracknell, where retail doom & gloom is can be overcome with flowers
