Norovirus brings visiting restrictions to Royal Berks

Visiting restrictions are being introduced at Royal Berkshire Hospital to help protect patients from coming into contact with the norovirus.

The virus which causes vomiting and diarrhoea is widespread in the community and hospital staff are asking that only essential visits are made.

They are asking everyone to take all possible measures to help keep the virus from being brought into the hospital and affecting more patients.

Parents whose children are patients in the children’s wards may visit but should not bring siblings with them.

A small number of wards have already been affected by the bug and the restrictions are intended to prevent any further cases being brought into the hospital.

Staff hope the public will realise the importance of taking every possible reasonable step to protect patients.

Nationally over one million people are reported to be suffering from the norovirus.
