On the right track to enjoy walks

January 26, 2011

A volunteer group in Shinfield has secured funding to produce a number of noticeboards and leaflets about walks in the area.

Richard Hatton, part of Shinfield Parish Volunteer Group, said: “The volunteer group came about because of a project about village character statements. I was part of the environmental group that decided to provide an ongoing scheme within the parish, which is where the group came from.

“For the noticeboard project we received £4,900 in Rural Access to Services Programme (RASP) funding via the Community Council for

“That enabled us to purchase the five noticeboards and erect them and we have about 15,000 leaflets, around 2,500 for each of the six walks.”

Mr Hatton continued: “Part of the idea is to provide enjoyment for people to use pathways and bridleways and it is also for recreation to show people walks in the area.

“I think there has been quite a lot of interest so far.”

The next walks will take place on Sunday, February 6, from 2pm at Arborfield Cross Recreational Ground, and on Sunday, March 6, from 2pm starting opposite Spring Gardens in Spencers Wood.
