Ascot glamour comes to Reading

By Alan Bunce
June 18, 2010

There was little doubt where many of the passengers at Reading Station were heading yesterday morning.

Glamorous outfits and striking headgear was everywhere to be seen as hundreds headed for Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot.

One group of mums and daughters from Tilehurst make Ladies’ Day an annual event. Roz Cooper and her daughter Lauren Cooper, along with Catherine Coleman, her daughter Eloise Coleman and Jenny Crowther and daughter Georgie Barnes set off early this year to make sure of a good spot in the sun, a table and chance to enjoy a drink or two.

Roz – wearing earth tones in mustard, cream and brown, with Lauren in a self-striped cream strapless dress – said from her vantage point in front of the giant screen: “It’s absolutely fantastic, the weather’s brilliant and there is a really good atmosphere.”

Meanwhile, Catherine Coleman chose black satin, Eloise was in a cream A-line mini dress, Jenny Crowther was bang on trend with a psychedelic maxi dress and Georgie Barnes opted for a Grecian off-the-shoulder number in dove grey.

And forget a fascinator, cool bags were a must accessory for this group.

But even the confiscation of Ms Cooper’s bottle of rum was not enough to stop her enjoying the day which had extra significance this year as it was Lauren’s 21st birthday.

“This is definitely a red letter day for us,” she said.

What's the point in publishing pics of non locals. Were there really no other Reading area people going to Ascot?

I think they look great - have a good day ladies and don't listen to the idiots on here.

Detective John Kimble - erm, yes they are dated as they are dressing in a 50's style.

"Ascot glamour" didn't really come to Reading did it. It just sort of stood on a platform waiting for the next train out of Reading.
