The beautiful people of Reading get the chance to make their faces famous with the launch this week of the Broad Street Mall Model Search 2010.

Entries are already flooding in for the competition which was officially launched on Monday.

Finalists from last year went on to bag top jobs in a TV series, professional modelling – and even a Hollywood movie.

Boys and girls between six and 25 have the chance to enter the competition if they think they have what it takes.

Centre manager at Broad Street Mall Steve Fawke said: “If there is anybody out there who would like a career in modelling, this is a great platform to start.

“The winners will be signed by a modelling agency.

“In fact the majority of last year’s winners got great work in modelling and TV. One even got film work, I believe.

“We have already have dozens of entries since the competition was launched so I think it is going to be at least as good as last year, if not better.

“I know from the people who come to the Broad Street Mall and right across Reading that there are some beautiful people out there. This is a great way to start a career in modelling.”

This is the 12th year of the Model Search competition.

Last year, the winner and runner-up in the six to 10 year category, Lewis Williamson and Jacque Wheaton, landed roles in a film called The Special Relationship starring Dennis Quaid and Michael Sheen.

The finalist in the 11 to 15 aged group Aaron Sunderland got a part in a TV costume drama called Downton Abbey.

The Reading Post is media sponsor of the competition which is also backed by Reading 107fm and Junior Model Management.

The three age categories are six to 10, 11 to 15 and 16 to 25 years and the winners will be signed by a South London model agency.

Closing date for entries is Friday, July 16.

It's about time someone had a good idea for publicity of the broad st. mall/Oracle that doesn't involve copying awful tacky american TV shows. Do something original for once.

"Are you Reading's next top model?". I'm assuming the question wasn't aimed at me as a 50-something ale drinker. Blatant ageism! ;)
