City Woman: Dress success for beauty SueBy Leigh Mencarini

Bootcamp beauty Sue Beckett has reached her goal – she’s slimmed into her fabulous fitness finale frock.
Back in February, City Woman told how Sue, 44, from Whitley, signed up to a 90-day bootcamp challenge.
Sue wanted a healthier lifestyle and to shape up after losing a whopping 24lb as part of a diet programme.
And the civil servant had her motivation hanging in her wardrobe – this gorgeous dress she spotted in a shop in Brighton.
Sue spent years looking in the shop window, but never went in – “I didn’t think they’d do my size,” she said.
Well, now it fits Sue like a glove.
“I had worn the dress once, at Christmas, and it was tight, and didn’t feel right,” she recalls.
“It was lovely to put it on at the end of the bootcamp and to feel more comfortable in it.
“I still haven’t worn it out, but it’s lovely to have it in the wardrobe waiting. I’d quite like to get dressed up and go out to the races now.”
Sue was 14-and-a-half stone at the start of the bootcamp, put together by Phillips-Fit personal training.
The programme has nothing to do with cold morning runs, bossy instructors or a strict diet regime – it relies upon the commitment and willpower of the individual.
It involves 30 minutes of exercise five days a week (complete with instructional videos), a 10-point daily checklist full of dietary advice and a daily motivational email. There is also a forum for bootcampers to talk about their progress and share experiences.
Trainer George Anderson explained: “It isn’t tailored for you, you tailor it as you’re doing it.
“It’s an educational process. We try not to write meal plans for people as it takes away the thought process.
“It’s about forming good habits to last.”
And that’s exactly how Sue has noticed so many changes to her shape.
“I have toned up around the middle, and that has moved me four notches down on my belt,” she says.
“I have also lost around my thighs – I’m now in size 16 jeans. I still have a long way to go but I’m confident I’ll get there.”
She admits she was a little worried when the 90th day approached – she thought when the daily emails stopped, her motivation would dip.
“I basically spent the next two weeks doing everything that I thought I had got out of the habit of doing,” she says.
“But the good thing is it reminded me of why I’d done bootcamp in the first place. I’m now back into it and feeling great again.
“People have said that my shape is beginning to change visably, and several people have commented on my hair and skin. I think that is following the 10 rules, including getting good amounts of sleep alongside the dietary advice.”
Sue is now 13 stone 11lbs and is wearing a size 14 top and 16 bottom.
And her advice to others?
“Try to find something that fits into your lifestyle,” she says.
“Even if you can’t commit to everything, you can learn new things that make being healthier fun.”
