True Food Co-op coming to Lower Earley

December 31, 2012

An ethical food market will open in Lower Earley on two Saturdays in January.

The True Food Co-op, which has a shop in Emmer Green, will open at Trinity Church in Chalfont Close on January 12 and 19.

The co-op sells organic fruit and vegetables, tinned goods and loose foods like rice and pasta, which customers weigh out and take home in their own bags, to save on packaging.

Anna Batchelor, from the co-op, which also runs three weekly popup markets in Readiing community centres, said: “We’ve been asking our membership where they would like another market and people said they would like one in that community.

“And the church is working with us, they are really keen.

“We want to be sure that people will come and support us, so these two dates are a test run to see if people want to get involved.”

Shoppers should bring containers for loose foods, and also bring a cotton shopping bag, as the co-op will not give out plastic bags.

The market will run from noon until 3pm on each of the Saturdays.
