Royals' chairman Sir John Madejski was guest speaker at the opening of a new restaurant in Tilehurst last week.
He was among a host of special guests invited to the official opening of Indian and Bangladeshi eatery Masala 22 on Wednesday.
The restaurant in Hildens Drive is part owned by Mohammed Siraj, the boss of the long-established Bina Tandoori, in Prospect Street, Caversham.
He said: “We had the chairman of the football club and well-known faces from a number of local organisations.
“Everybody enjoyed the evening and £3,500 was raised for the Duchess of Kent House which is what the evening was all about.”
Guests made donations for their food and drink and took part in an auction, which included a signed football and shirt from Reading Football Club.
Masala 22 has been open for nearly three months and Mr Siraj said he felt good about the future despite the current economic conditions.
He said: “I feel confident because its a bright and modern restaurant and I think people have been waiting for an upmarket quality restaurant in Tilehurst for a long time.”
