Anna Louise goes for the Golden Spurtle
By Linda FortOctober 07, 2011
Reading's Porridge Lady is hoping to win gold at this year’s world porridge-making championship on Sunday.
Anna Louise Batchelor from East Reading won a prize in the speciality category in 2009.
But this year she has set her sights on winning the Golden Spurtle trophy in the traditional category.
Miss Batchelor said: “It’s going to be tough making a bowl of porridge that convinces the panel of judges that I can make the world’s best traditional porridge.
“They know me for my innovative speciality porridges, but to make the world’s best bowl of traditional porridge, using only water, salt and oatmeal, is a completely different challenge.
“To win this purist’s category and claim the overall Golden Spurtle trophy would mean the world to me.”
Miss Batchelor has more than 1,400 followers on Twitter @porridgelady, with a daily source of porridge ideas, and she also writes a blog on www.porridgelady.co.uk.
