Coffee shop closes without any warning

July 30, 2010

A prominent town centre coffee bar’s future is uncertain after the franchise holder left without notice.

Coffee Republic, on the corner of Broad Street and Minster Street, has been closed all week without any explanation to customers.

Tables and chairs are scattered around the unswept floor after the doors were closed on Sunday evening.

Maggie Wright, a spokeswoman for Coffee Republic, said: “The site was franchised and the franchisee left without informing Coffee Republic so we are currently assessing the situation.”

Coffee Republic reeks of the 90s, it's hard to believe anybody will miss it.

Why the need to bring Greg Poncetello into everything? EP makes him out to be some kind of community leader. He runs a poncy coffee shop end of.

As a self-employed man, I find it's always sad to see any business go under.

But it's even sadder to see the pathetic lowlifes enjoying the fact.

Sad to see any business fail, but Coffee Rebubic was dark and soulless in terms of decor; the coffee was hovvering around average and the service was just about OK.

I have been to the independent one next to Starbucks several times now - Picnic - really, really nice coffee, great service and super cakes!

He had mentioned starbucks arrival diaginal on corner had an effect and that the rent demanded by the Oracle was "unbbearable"

Its interesting to see what chain goes in next. If I find the owners card I will ring him and workhousecoffee tweet any new info. Really sad to see someone go under :o(

Too many coffee shops if you ask me. No wonder they can't all make money.

Ran out of idiots paying £2.50 for a 15p cup of coffee. Surprised EP haven't already spoken to Abbott Costello from the Dorkhouse Coffee down the road.
