Michelin chef to open food market
February 03, 2010
A top chef is to open an upcoming country food market and show off some of his culinary skills while he’s at it.
Martin Burge, head chef at the five AA Red Star Whatley Manor Hotel in Wiltshire, will open Crowthorne’s first Country Food Market, at the Morgan Centre in Wellington Road on Saturday, March 13.
Martin, who received his second Michelin star last year and was named the Independent’s Chef of the Year for 2009, will open the market and give cooking demonstrations over the course of the day.
The organising committee had planned for Martin to do his demonstrations in the social club next to the Morgan Centre but the social club’s lease would mean visitors would have to pay £2 each as non-members of the club.
Cllr Joan Newland, part of the organising committee, said: “We didn’t want our visitors to have to pay £2 just for the cooking demonstrations so we are looking at alternatives.”
The market, which will feature British food, a pie competition, question and answer sessions with local producers and more, will cost £1 to enter.
