Stevie b: The price is right

The countdown is on. The next time I’ll be waffling on it will be December, don’t panic, don’t panic.

At the moment, with the game so quiet, read on and stay clear of the warnings.

No warnings on the following: potatoes as per normal, your variety, shape, size and colour is here. British or European, carrots, traditional, bunched and the ever-popular chantenay.

Onions, European, English, red and white. Shallots, grelots, roscoff, Jerusalem artichokes, red, candy and golden beetroot, celeriac, mooli, horseradish, parsnips, Swede, leeks, kohlrabi, ginger, sweet potatoes, butternut, pumpkins and squashes, caulies, lemon grass, courgettes, aubergines, green and yellow patty pans, baby corn, French, bobby and runner beans, the many baby veggies, fennel, asparagus, garlic, primo, savoy, spring and hispi greens, baby and large leaf spinach, red chard, cavalo nero, boc and pak choi, Swiss chard, brocc, romanesco, purple sprouting but a little seedy, sprouts (pictured) and their tops – there are button sprouts but a little more expensive.

Also mangetout, sugar snaps, red and white cabbage, turnips and globe artichokes from Jordan.

Mushrooms: button, flats, oyster, shiitake, chestnut, portabella, mixed wild, the pound against the Euro would help the rest: girolles, ceps, trumpet and chanterelle.

Warning: French globe artichokes.

Fruits: British apples, comice and conference pears are still very good. European apples, kiwi, papaya, mangos, passion, physalis, pineapples, bananas, prunes, dates, star, dragon and kaki fruits, berries, rasps, blacks, blues and redcurrants.

Nut section: myself and any other greengrocer, USA walnuts, chestnuts and mixed.

Citrus, sorry to say a lot on the warning tag: oranges, sats, clems, grapefruits should all be cheaper, limes, lemons and kumquats are okay.

Melons: galia, cantaloupe, honeydew and water.

Warning: strawberries, peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, figs and seedless grapes, rhubarb for cooking and bramleys, quinces, cranberries.

Salads: tomatoes very stable, no problems with the many leaves including iceberg, cos and little gem.

There’s also spring onions, celery, watercress, radish, salad potatoes, cooked beetroots, coloured peppers, shoots, micro salads and cresses.

Only one warning: red chicory and don’t forget the herbs.

Luv Stevie B

Possibly the dullest article I have read this month. I say read, but I dozed off half way through :-(
