The Lyndhurst is back in business

September 11, 2009

We’re back and better than ever say the staff at a Central Reading pub which was closed after a rodent scare.

Last month The Lyndhurst in Watlington Street was shut by Reading Borough Council environmental health bosses when rats were spotted in the venue.

The Lyndhurst is shut by rat infestation

But now the pub has been deemed fit to reopen by council environmental health officer Matthew Moore and Jason Hill, who runs the pub, said it was great to be open again.

Mr Hill promised drinkers and diners the watering hole was clean and tidy.

He said: “The Lyndhurst is back and better than ever.

“Freshly cleaned and refurbished the Lyndy is back serving some of Reading’s top pub food.

“The past weeks have been a tough time following an invasion of rats that found their way into the building through a now sealed hole.

“Activity in the area seems rife with an adjacent property having had a similar problem two weeks prior and the extensive major building works opposite.

“Practices and procedures were in place to minimise any risk posed to the public and we would never knowingly endanger anyone with tainted produce.

“Having worked closely with Mr Moore from the council, he is satisfied any problem has been dealt with fully.

“The Lyndhurst is very happy to be back and would like to thank all who expressed their support and understanding.

“As a thanks we are offering any starter for free with any main course purchased throughout September.”

I heard they used an Epp's penned libdem speach to rid the place of the rats. Clearly the libdem answer to Salter's "any photo is good" attitude!

It's a great pub and I'm pleased it's reopened. It deserves success.

To be fair to the place it was doing a brisk trade yesterday....as I passed it and went to Bobs.

The management there have had their one screw-up, do it again and expect the regulars to vanish.
