The Lyndhurst Pub celebrates the best of British

A Reading pub is marking August with a real feast

There’s not much that’s great about Britain at the moment, particularly as the forecast for August is rain (in case you hadn’t noticed), but an inventive landlord has taken the belt ’n’ braces approach to guarantee a smile on our faces.

A good ol’ London knees-up is coming to The Lyndhurst pub – and is just one of the highlights in a month-long celebration of Great British food.

“Everyone was saying there would be a heatwave, but I knew it would rain,” says the Queen’s Road pub co-owner Jason Hill.

“We planned this month-long theme so punters can enjoy the summer anyway.

A bit of Dunkirk spirit and all that!”

And, on Saturday, August 22, there will be a proper East End celebration, complete with pub duo Belt N Braces (just to make sure) tinkling on the ol’ Joanna and a menu including pie, mash and liquor, jellied eel washed down with a pint of real ale.

“We’re also serving cream teas and Pimm’s and there’s our regulars of fish and chips and sausage and mash. We will deliver traditional food and it’s bound to be served up with some traditional British weather,” Jason jokes.

Then he adds: “Watch out for fiddlers and morris dancers”, referring to other English entertainment planned for the rest of the month.

The pub will also be serving real ales, British wine and cider throughout August.

Spooky that 'The Lyndhurst Arms' just happens to be an anagram of 'Shh! My Rats Trundle'.

But I hope they're open again soon.
