30 youth jobs created

February 09, 2010

Thirty jobs have been created for 18-24-year-olds who have found it difficult to get work.

Berkshire Scout Enterprises is spearheading the project to deliver the jobs after winning Government funding.

Chief executive Alan Beavis formed the company in 1985 in response to growing unemployment the among young people including Scouts and Guides.

He said: “We work on community projects and are thrilled to receive funding for these jobs. These jobs are a huge boost to our support schemes and centres.”

Employment will be created  in community posts for environmental and maintenance projects and the jobs will last at least six months.

Work and pensions minister Jonathan Shaw said: “These will be community posts in environmental and maintenance projects and administration.

“As a result local people should see improvements to village greens, allotments, church property and land, old community facilities and prominent buildings.”

The posts will be available through Jobcentre Plus.

I think this is great. Although I have one reservation, are they being ageist by stating an age range? I thought there we an equality law about this or am I wrong.
