Dog wins part in La Boheme opera

By Becky Barnes
May 03, 2012

A papillon will star in an opera following a casting call for a small, well-behaved local dog. And with the name meaning Butterfly, you could be forgiven for mistaking which opera it is.

But, in fact, one of Fran McWade’s dogs will feature as Musetta’s pet in the Ukrainian National Opera’s production of La Boheme, at Anvil Arts, Basingstoke, on Sunday.

Fran 19, from Owlsmoor, who has six show dogs, will choose between papillons Buttons (pictured), Leo, and Freddie. She said: “Papillons have a lovely temperament. I may use Freddie as he is a mummy’s boy.”
