Rumba to zumba are set to wow audiences at this year’s Reading Dance Showcase when more than 30 styles of dance will sashay into town.
Pride of Reading winner Caversham dancewear store Dancia International is putting on the spectacular event which will feature more than 40 local dance schools, clubs and primary schools.
And arguably Reading’s most famous dance teacher, X Factor contestant and Arborfield lad Danyl Johnson, will be opening the showcase on Sunday, June 6, at Rivermead Leisure Complex in Richfield Avenue.
Jude Chapman, of the Church Street dancewear shop, said: “Everyone had such a brilliant time last year. The response from the performers and the public was overwhelming, and we have had so many emails asking us to run the event again.
“This year, the audience will be able to enjoy performances of such diverse dance styles as ballet, salsa, tap, tango, hip hop, ceroc, flamenco, Irish, Scottish, rock ‘n’ roll, Latin and zumba.
“Anyone looking for a new dance school for their child, or wanting to take up a new dance style themselves, will be able to speak to the teachers at their exhibition tables and find all the information they need. They will also be able to take advantage of free taster classes throughout the day.
“And at just £2.50, it will also be a great family day out.”
Groups taking part include Dance Reality, Fledgling Youth Dance Company, Starburst Stage School and Starmaker. Pupils from Geoffrey Field Junior and Wilson Primary Schools will be performing Street Jazz while the exotic delights of bellydance and Bollywood will be demonstrated by Letsbellydance and Sangeet Dance Academy, respectively.
And that’s just some of the more than 500 people due to perform.
Tickets are £2.50 throughout the day, which runs from 10am to 6pm.
All profits go to charity Reading Area Charities Together, a consortium of several Reading-based good causes.
