Give a big HUG to radio station

April 08, 2010

Young people from around Bracknell will be on air from 8am today as HUG FM hits the airwaves.

The team has spent the last 10 weeks learning how to produce and edit shows and has been interviewing local musicians and community groups.

The station is broadcasting from a “virtual studio” in Brook House in Bracknell town centre for four days ending on Sunday evening.

Also involved in the project is actor Winston Ellis, who has been in films including Pirates of the Caribbean and the Batman film The Dark Knight.

The course has been organised by the NACRO charity and paid for by Lorraine Parker, the teenage pregnancy project manager from Bracknell Forest Council, as well as Connexions.

Cheryl Dean, manager of the station, said: “I have grown up a lot over the last 10 weeks and become more confident and comfortable in myself.

“We are one big family and this is an experience I will remember for the rest of my life. Joining the project was the best decision I have ever made.”

The team are keen for members of the public to take part in the four-day broadcast and have set up a live link to the studio. To listen online visit www.hugradio.co.uk.

To enter competitions and request songs text 07521 683 940. Call the studio on 01344 867 582 or email studio@hugradio.co.uk.

It's superb to see young people getting involved with projects like this. When many are bleating on about the problems with youth and sending them on "national service" Army style, it's good to see young people spending their time productively.
