Something exotic from Anoushka

May 25, 2001

STUNNINGLY beautiful and musically gifted, Anoushka Shankar learned sitar at the knee of, Ravi, her world famous father.

Ravi Shankar, who famously taught the Beatles about Indian music, is the world’s leading exponent of sitar and he schooled his daughter for nine years before she made her musical debut in New Delhi at the age of 13.

She is also a classical pianist and has played both instruments in concert.

Her first solo tour in the UK will be supported by leading tabla masters Bikram Ghosh and Tanmoy Bose.

Anoushka represents a new breed of Indian musicians in whose work youth and tradition are linked in spectacular performance.

She has some prestigious venues in her tour including Queen Elizabeth Hall on the South Bank.

She will be playing at The Concert Hall in Reading on Saturday, June 9, and tickets at £13.50 and £15.50 are available from the box office on (0118) 960 6060.
