Wayeta hoping to sing her way Out of This World
July 23, 2012
Gospel singer Wayeta Pilgrim from Caversham will be hoping her talent will see her crowned the winner of UK-wide Christian music competition Just Out Of This World.
The 36-year-old from Mead Close will sing Still I Rise after winning through the audition and a regional final to reach the semi-final at Trinity Baptist Church in West Norwood on July 28.
The self-taught singer regularly performs around town including her own show The Wayeta Experience at Deja Vu in St Mary’s Butts, and also reached the semi-final of Has Reading Got Talent? last year.
She grew up with a love of music, singing gospel, soul, jazz and rock and lists Yolanda Adams, Ella Fitzgerald and Kim Burrell among her inspirations.
She is a regular worshipper at The Globe church in Portman Road, West Reading, and hopes one day to realise her dream of recording an EP or album.
Miss Pilgrim said: “I have been singing for a number of years and I am not one to blow my own trumpet but I hope by doing well I will be able to take it further.
“When you touch people’s hearts and make them cry, when you connect with an emotion or bring smiles to people’s faces, it’s lovely.
“I have never had a singing lesson and believe my voice is a God-given gift and something I have to share.”
The final of the competition will be held at the Rivers of Love Centre in Woolwich on August 18.

Or is it more likely that the imaginary friend does not exist and in fact pure chance and nature gifted her the voice?
