The Magnets will attract crowds to G Live
April 25, 2012
Back from India and Oz with another clutch of five star reviews and a suntan, a cappella stars The Magnets bring their glorious vocal harmonies and jaw dropping beatboxing to G Live, Guildford on Thursday May 10.
Literally a ‘six-man sound machine’, The Magnets make all their music with their mouths alone, including the drums of vocal percussionist/beat-boxer Andy Frost and the richly textured bass of Fraser Collins.
However, this is no attempt to mimic instruments, but rather the blending of six distinctive voices to create a unique sound. At the root of The Magnets success lays a talent for radically restyling much loved songs to writing their own award winning material.
Packed with musical sophistication, vocal stunts, cool moves, engaging humour and plenty of audience participation, their concerts combine the wow factor of a Stomp-style sensation and the dynamics of a great rock show, all without an instrument in sight.
Highlights include a bossa-nova version of Bon Jovi’s Living on a Prayer, the audience’s choice of the band’s trademark A-Z medleys (will it be bands or movies?) and Andy Frost’s show stopping mouth drumming solo.
“Our formative years were spent touring mostly abroad so it’s lovely to be playing at home more. We feel accepted here now, and given the British focus of our next album hopefully we'll be getting plenty of inspiration as we travel,” says The Magnet’s Michael Welton.
Tickets are £17 and can be booked from the box office on 0844 7701 797 or at GLive.co.uk.
